Dr Jennifer Willet and The Arts & Genomics Centre announce the online video launch of the BioARTCAMP Video. BioARTCAMP is a hybrid workshop / conference / performance event where 20 national and international artists, scientists, filmmakers, and university students will work for two weeks to build a portable biology laboratory in Banff National Park. The BioARTCAMP Video was co-produced by G-Netwerk & INCUBATOR (Jeanette Groenendaal, Zoot Derks and Jennifer Willet) and serves an evocative artwork itself, while providing a glimpse of the BioARTCAMP experience to a larger general audience. The Arts & Genomics Centre is coordinating a new edition of the Leiden University Honours class on Bioart. Centered around the theme "Who Owns Life?", the course will bring together different perspectives on the issues of owning life including esthetical, legal, scientific, ethical, and economic. In order to connect the philosophical questions above with everyday scientific practice the Australian bio-artist Boo Chapple will use the first four sessions to work with the participants in the lab with some hands‐on biological techniques. "VivoArts: Art and Biology Studio - Wet Lab Practice and Bio‐Art Pedagogy " is part of the Leiden University Honours Education. |

TAGC promotes the Ars Bioarctica art& science residency in 2012Call for applications |

Ars Bioarctica is long term art& science program by the Finnish Society of Bioart together with the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station. Since 2010, it is organizing an artist-in-residency program at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki in the sub-Arctic Lapland. The emphasis of the residency is the Arctic environment and art& science collaboration and it is open for artists and art& science research teams. The residency takes place in the facilities of the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station. The Kilpisjärvi Biological Station offers to the visiting artists the same possibilities and infrastructure as its scientists and staff. This includes access to all scientific equipment, laboratory facilities, the library and seminar room as well as the usage of field equipment. A dedicated contact person in Kilpisjärvi will familiarize residents with the local environment and customs. Ars Bioartica is currently accepting applications for visiting artists. Dr. Jennifer Willet from The School of Visual Arts announces BioARTCAMP, an Art/Science event hosted by INCUBATOR lab and The Banff Centre in July 2011. BioARTCAMP is a hybrid workshop/symposium/performance event where artists, scientists, theorists, filmmakers, and students will work together to build a portable laboratory in Banff National Park. Participants will contribute to the general construction of an art/science field research station at Castle Mountain, an offsite and outdoors location. A variety of collaborative art actions and projects will be conducted in the outdoor laboratory. Senior artists will present bioartworks within a camping/laboratory context at a public art/science fair event hosted live at the Castle Mountain location. The two-week residency will conclude at The Banff Centre with a symposium and panel discussion including all participants. BIOARTCAMP is currently accepting applications for student participants.
